I really want to keep working on it, but I’ve already wasted half the day and I have yet to study for finals…witch are bullshit since they don’t really test your knowledge, only how much you can cram into your skull the day before. Although, most test I take do show my understanding because I don’t study all that much.

The other day I decided that I was going to defrag my hard drive. Unfortunately I didn’t have enough space on my hard drive, so I had to delete a bunch of crap (including a large restore file that I probably shouldn’t have tampered with). After defragging, which was completely pointless as far as I can tell because loading shit hasn’t gotten any faster, I discovered that the Google Desktop gadget that I use to put my lappy into hibernation was broken. I tried removing it and re-adding it to no avail, I uninstalled it and tried reinstalling it, but nothing happened. The GUI showed up, but the buttons did nothing. Now, this wouldn’t be a problem on most computers, but mine is special and by special I mean a piece of shit (sort of). It has never liked to go into hibernation, the button in the shutdown dialog does nothing, setting the power button setting to hibernation does nothing, in fact until I found this gadget, the only way it went into hibernation was sometimes if I closed the lid when it was running on battery, this is not always helpful. Why do I need my computer to hibernate so badly, you ask? Well how would you like to have to wait 15 minutes every time you want to do some computing? I’m not sure if it’s that I have a lot of crap installed (which I do) or whether it’s actually important shit loading, but startup takes forever. So without hibernation, my laptop isn’t very fun.

You may have seen in a previous post (who am I kidding, no one’s reading this) that I got the Orange Box, but could not play it because my computers suck. Well, today my father and I went up to his office to test it out on his computer, it’s significantly newer that both our compies and we thought why not. He suggested that if it worked we could bring it home for break, of course he forgot that it was locked to his desk…I checked his hardware info and was encouraged by the fact that his graphics card appeared to be a card and not integrated (integrated is such bullshit). So, I installed Steam, installed Portal, updated Porta, ran the game, started a new game, it loaded (it looked a little rough, but beautiful and shiny), the first portal opened, hoped, walked through it, and…IT WORKED!!! I had to go back through it a couple times to make sure. It worked quite nicely in fact shiny, reflective, a bit aliased, and a little jerky, but definitely playable, I think that bloom may have even been supported. I got to play for about half an hour and enjoyed myself thoroughly. I really need to get myself that new computer.

I was going to get my new computer and then get the Orange Box, but when I saw that it was $10 off at Circuit City, I decided what the hell. Of course there was a good chance that they wouldn’t have it because when they had a similar deal for HL2: Ep 1, they didn’t have it, but surprisingly they did and I bought it. Got it home, installed it on my dad’s computer, started Portal, went through the first portal, got-got-got-got-got-Hl.exe has encountered and error and must quit-NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Fucker. Went upstairs, installed it on my laptop, started it up-Error: This game requires Direct X 8 to run properly. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Fucker.

SO NOT FUCKING FAIR!

I was supposed to write a 4 page essay on the purpose of poetry for Monday. It’s 10:17 Sunday night and I have 1 paragraph and a poem I wrote about my inability to find the purpose. Fuck.

Yay! Time of-oh wait. Never mind.

I can’t think of a title.

I’m still sick, but feel a little better. Thanksgiving break is coming [ok so I almost coughed up a lung right there] so that will be nice hopefully, but then you know how teachers think: “Oh! They have a break! That means they’ll have plenty of time to relax and write a 42 page essay!” That’s what they ALL think. They say they know that other teachers are giving us stuff, but it’s too late, they’re sure that this is the perfect assignment and that we can handle all the rest. BULLSHIT! Unless I missed the memo, breaks are meant to give us a chance to relax, to unwind, to escape the stress of fucking assignments. I thought of a title. I thought of something I want to program. It’s gonna be a simulation of single celled organisms and I reall want to make it look like a realistic electron scanning image. In other news, I finally completely completed “the Simpsons Hit and Run” with a little help from some maps, I had 2 gags that I couldn’t find and that’s all I needed to be 100%, though the maps didn’t really help because I wasn’t sure what gags I had already gotten. Turns out that I had missed the break in the fence around the telescope in the observatory on level 3 and 7. It’s a pretty awesome game, but I really want a free-range Simpsons game where you can go anywhere, with an accurate city layout (Hit and Run maps are so warped it’s painful) and where not all of the missions are based around cars, maybe that’s what the new Simpsons Game is, but I don’t know.

I’m sick, it’s midnight, I’m going to wake up at 5 tomorrow because my brain thinks we’re still on daylight saving time, aaand I still have to finish this fucking bio poster.

Oh and my dad says that I should cut down on the swearing, but he doesn’t have to read this, so I think not.

This is the second time I had to post this…

So I updated to Wordpress 2.3.1 today. Everything was fine except that I wanted tags for all of my posts preceding the update. I was going to try to write a script when I discovered it had already been done. It was supposed to take my categories and add tags to all the posts, but it only converted some of my categories and then deleted them. So, I had a few categories left and a few tags and I couldn’t figure out how to fix it. Finally, I gave up and just deleted the entire thing; yes the entire site. Then, I had fun trying to reinstall it. After a number of tries it eventually cooperated. While trying, I realized I didn’t have a backup of my upload folder, I’ll have to re-upload those sometime. Hopefully everything works now. Oh, I also lost a couple posts, but only one was really any good.
