Today we went to the Thames Festival which is essentially a large street fair along the Thames; go figure. There were a lot of people selling things that I wasn’t interested in like baskets that smelled like reed because they were made of reed. We arrived at a stage just in time for the last fifteen minutes of some sort of Korean dance/song/theatre thing. It looked Asian so I felt obligated to film it. I have about ten minutes after which I gave up. At some point I’ll upload it somewhere. After a lot of walking we eventually reached a section that was like the Santa Cruz County Fair, but didn’t seem quite so disgusting in general. I got a cheeseburger. It was pretty good. We walked a little further and found a man walking on a cylinder attached to an arm that swung it around while he walked on the outside. At this point we didn’t feel like walking all the way back so we caught a bus home. Just now while I was writing this, I managed to semi-brick my N810 tablet and had to restore it. It just finished and is booting. Shit, I have to find all my programs again.
Today I got some 9v battery connectors to make it easier to change the batteries. I realized afterward that in doing this I detracted from the iShit’s “hackedness” by which I mean I bought parts instead of cannibalizing some other electronics. Oh well, it still looks like shit on the outside. This alsoshowcases my new carrying case for it which makes it a dance party on the go. It has been tested and the verdict is good.
So, I’ve been listening to Daft Punk, mostly Discovery, since Friday. And they have yet to get old, I’ve listened to some other stuff so I don’t go into a coma, but I still love the music. Yesterday, Trung and I danced to it on the way to Ultimate with it blaring from the iShit (dance party to go) and on the way back Alex, Sierra (not so much), and I danced to it, really, we were walking in tune to the music; it was epic. I need to make a Daft Funk playlist of my favorite songs, i.e. “One More Time,” “Aerodynamic,” “Digital Love,” “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger,” “Da Funk,” “Robot Rock,” and “Around the World.” I really love the synth solo in Aerodynamic, EPIC.
Today had my History and poetry finals. History was ok; that is, I thought I did well, until my teacher came to my poetry final and told me to come to study hall when I was done. i thought it was because my second essay was near complete shit, but then that doesn’t actually make sense, he wouldn’t give me time and force me to fix it. No, it turns out that I missed a entire page of multiple choice questions and he didn’t want to have to take away all those points, so he let me finish them. It makes sense that I missed some because when I was taking it, I reached the end of the first set of multiple choice and was surprised because it hadn’t taken me that long. Poetry on the other hand was horrible, we had to prepare 3 outlines for different essays before hand and we would be told in class which to write. Turns out that we got to choose, unfortunately I didn’t really know what to write for any of them, so It came out as complete and utter shit. Too bad since it’s worth 100 points.
Today, instead of studying for Trig, which I will likely regret, I wrote a plugin that makes a list of bands that I have had stuck in my head and displays the latest one beneath the site title. There is also a page that display the list accessible on the sidebar or by clicking the name of the current band.
My mom thought it would be fun to go to the Grand Canyon over winter break, she was wrong. I’d really like to write a long post about the many occurances, but I’m too fucking lazy. Here’s a summary:
I got sick week before.
Dad got sick over weekend.
Mom sick by the time we reached phoenix.
Spent some time with my aunt, cousins, uncle.
Got to the GC.
Lots of tourists.
Fucking cold.
Saw the bid hole. A lot.
Last day there it snowed in flurries.
Back to Phoenix.
More time with aunt, cousins, uncle.
Came home.
Weee.
Today I got to finish Portal. It was so fucking awesome. The stuff GLaDos says is so funny, as was “Still Alive”. If you haven’t played and plan to do so, don’t watch the following video.
I forgot to write about this last night. My parents and I went to see Across the Universe. It was actually really good, especially since I had no idea what to expect. It reminded me of Tommy. The one thing I found odd (other than the other odd stuff) was that they didn’t actually have “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” in the movie, it was played during the credits…uh, what the fuck? I would have thought they would put it in there, I mean, most of the other characters had the song they were named for, but when they played “All You Need is Love” I thought “Wait, ‘All You Need is Love’ is the last song, what happened to ‘LSD’?” By last song I mean that “All You Need is Love” is the last song on the Magical Mystery Tour album, which made me wonder if MMT is also their last album…the Internet does not want to give me an answer (I’m too lazy to look hard).
Went to Atlantis Fantasy World to get all four of the books in the Amory Wars (either based on the music by Coheed and Cambria or the other way around, not sure) series only to find they didn’t have them. So I decided to buy them online. Unfortunately, it seems that the second book is out of print and the few copies for sale are $10 instead of $4, so I only got 1 and 3. Guess I’ll just have to fill in the gaps with Wikipedia. Even so, they promise to be awesome.
In a word: Awesome! In two: Fucking Awesome! Yesterday, my friends Alex, Trung, and I went to see the Coheed and Cambria concert at the SF Warfield. It was my first concert and it looked to be pretty awesome. Except, it started off a little shaky because as we got to where we were going, I realized that I had to piss. Unfortunately, the doors didn’t open for another half-hour. So, I was stuck in line trying my best to stay in control. I made it. After a trip to the men’s, we got in line to buy merch, I decided to get a T-shirt with a big blue dragonfly (which we later discovered to be some sort of robot/space ship) with tour dates on the back. Alex got an awesome (though over-priced) Keywork belt buckle
Trung was going to get a hot pink shir t(I forget what was on it). So, Alex got his buckle and Trung and I got our shirts. I put mine on over my shirt, little tight, but then that’s cause I was wearing two shirts. Trung put his on and it was too small. Now, my first thought was that it looks like he got a girls shirt because not only is it hot pink, but it also looks like it’s got that curved inward at the middle shape you sometimes see…on girls. Trung insisted it was just too small, so he exchanged it for a large. This too was too small. We decided that it was in fact a girl’s shirt. So he exchanged it again for a different style. Too small, exchanged for a large. Still too small; the tag has the word “girl” on it. Then he exchanged it for a large of a different shirt. Now, it was too big. So he got a medium and finally he was satisfied…Trung fails. The opening band (Fall of Troy) was okay. The music itself was good, but the lyrics were pretty much the singer screaming shit into the mic. Also, at one point the singer hawked a giant loogy, spit it up in the air and then caught it in his mouth…definitely could have gone without seeing that; at another point he started spitting into his hand and I was afraid he was going to throw it at the audience, but instead he just threw it on stage. Unfortunately, a mosh pit opened up right next to where we were standing, so I spent most of the first set with my right arm up for protection. The second band was good as well. The members all appeared to be in their late 30’s/early 40’s and they played a southernish rock (with much better vocals). [I just spaced out for about, oh, an hour] Again, a mosh pit broke out near us, which wasn’t really that fun. Finally, after what seemed like forever, the back curtain went up to reveal a little city (Jersey maybe?). At that moment, the audience on the floor turned to a can of sardines and remained so for the rest of the show; the one good thing was that it made it harder to fall over. But man, Coheed was fucking awesome, opened with “No World for Tomorrow” and played “Welcome Home” and “The Final Cut” as an encore.
Best parts: Claudio “shooting” us with his guitar, Claudio playing behind his head, Claudio playing with his tongue (I assume hi tongue, couldn’t really see), and the 5 minute (at least) drum solo during “The Final Cut.” SO…FUCKING…AWESOME!
