Bio Video

Monday, February 11th, 2008

We had to make a video for bio. I’m the only one in my group that knows how to use video editing software. I probably spent between 9 and 11 hours editing it…maybe more. However, it’s done!!!

Duel Gatling?

Fuck yes! Here’s another version of the game I’m working on:

AWSD to move, mouse aims and shoots.

Shooter V3

I really want to keep working on it, but I’ve already wasted half the day and I have yet to study for finals…witch are bullshit since they don’t really test your knowledge, only how much you can cram into your skull the day before. Although, most test I take do show my understanding because I don’t study all that much.

I got some ideas for a shooter game. It’s gonna be similar to the one I made a while back, but better. Click to shoot.

The other day I decided that I was going to defrag my hard drive. Unfortunately I didn’t have enough space on my hard drive, so I had to delete a bunch of crap (including a large restore file that I probably shouldn’t have tampered with). After defragging, which was completely pointless as far as I can tell because loading shit hasn’t gotten any faster, I discovered that the Google Desktop gadget that I use to put my lappy into hibernation was broken. I tried removing it and re-adding it to no avail, I uninstalled it and tried reinstalling it, but nothing happened. The GUI showed up, but the buttons did nothing. Now, this wouldn’t be a problem on most computers, but mine is special and by special I mean a piece of shit (sort of). It has never liked to go into hibernation, the button in the shutdown dialog does nothing, setting the power button setting to hibernation does nothing, in fact until I found this gadget, the only way it went into hibernation was sometimes if I closed the lid when it was running on battery, this is not always helpful. Why do I need my computer to hibernate so badly, you ask? Well how would you like to have to wait 15 minutes every time you want to do some computing? I’m not sure if it’s that I have a lot of crap installed (which I do) or whether it’s actually important shit loading, but startup takes forever. So without hibernation, my laptop isn’t very fun.

You may have seen in a previous post (who am I kidding, no one’s reading this) that I got the Orange Box, but could not play it because my computers suck. Well, today my father and I went up to his office to test it out on his computer, it’s significantly newer that both our compies and we thought why not. He suggested that if it worked we could bring it home for break, of course he forgot that it was locked to his desk…I checked his hardware info and was encouraged by the fact that his graphics card appeared to be a card and not integrated (integrated is such bullshit). So, I installed Steam, installed Portal, updated Porta, ran the game, started a new game, it loaded (it looked a little rough, but beautiful and shiny), the first portal opened, hoped, walked through it, and…IT WORKED!!! I had to go back through it a couple times to make sure. It worked quite nicely in fact shiny, reflective, a bit aliased, and a little jerky, but definitely playable, I think that bloom may have even been supported. I got to play for about half an hour and enjoyed myself thoroughly. I really need to get myself that new computer.

Christmas Back Home

Zelda

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

Last Saturday I was really bored. I couldn’t think of any programming projects, which is always depressing. So, I decided to try out “The Legend of Zelda: the Ocarina of Time,” on Project64, and it’s a lot of fun. I had never actually played any of the Zelda series and now I’m regretting that. It’s amazing what they did with this game, the Nintendo 64 graphics weren’t all that great (maybe for their time), but the designers of “Ocarina of Time” used their resources really well and it look beautiful. It’s also a really long game with quests up the ass.

Zelda out of reach

Nope…

Weekend!!

Friday, December 7th, 2007

Huzzah! Hopefully I’ll think of something to make, because I really want to program. If I can’t think of anything to make in Flash, then maybe I’ll add stuff to the site, and if I can’t think of anything for that, then I’ll just watch TV.

So…Yeah

I haven’t really had much to write about lately, well there is one thing, but I going to wait on that. The last few days (read nights) I’ve been working on a multi-player game-like thing. It’s not really a game as of yet. It’s hard to describe, but pretty much you control this hover block that you can move around in a 3D world and sortof interact with other people. I built in a really quick chat system that works through the console. The console, at the moment, is really the only way of doing stuff other than moving or changing the camera angle and view. I’ve built in a bunch of functions that do stuff like change the player’s name, color, or alpha. So, you can personalize your “Helio” (as I’m calling it, yeah I know the name rips off the phone, but it really fits, cause the model looks like a little helicopter) to a degree. Also, I put in a few secret things that I though would be fun to use when showing it off to people. Eventually, the plan is to make a capture the flag game. I wonder if it works over the interwebs, I’m unsure because I haven’t had a chance to try it, the only testing has been on my local network. One problem is that because of .swf security issues, the networking only works in an executable form, though there may be a workaround, which would be nice.
