The Princess Bride

Even though “The Princess Bride” is my favorite movie, I’ve never read The Princess Bride. At least, not until now. I bought a copy on Friday and started reading it. There are two reasons why the movie was so good. First, the screenplay was written by William Goldman, the same person who wrote the book, so there’s non of that “I’m going to interpret this differently” bullshit. Second, (and this leads off from the first) the movie is not a rewritten version of the book, it’s an abridgement, albeit there are a few word choice variations, but for the most part, it all happens and is said in the same way. Both of which are a good thing, the advantage of reading the book is that it gives more background for the characters, so not only do you love the characters, but you also know them.
